Jesus said: “I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.” John 8:38
How easy to get comfortable in our Christian practice and even to take pride in our religious credentials or what we’ve achieved (alone or together) over the years. How easy to justify that we hold the true religion in the truest way. Anglican. Evangelical. Charismatic. Missional. Not only what we stand for - but sometimes who we stand against.
Jesus confronted this kind of zeal in a way that led to insults (Jn.8:41), accusations of insanity (8:48), and even attempts on his life (8:59).
Are we living our lives for an audience of one, Father God, or are our motives really from another father - the father of lies?
The Father of truth seeks sons and daughters who will make him the sole focus of their worship.
Let’s Pray…
That any impure motives in our lives would be exposed by the Holy Spirit.
That we would give all that we are, and live our full lives, for the audience of one, our Father in Heaven who loves us and sent his Son to die for us.
