“Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour." John 12:27
Jesus knew ‘the hour had come’ and he tried to teach his disciples that glory was tied to suffering; a seed had to die and be buried before it would produce fruit.
It was not a point of academic discussion and Jesus’ heart was troubled. In a few touching words, John shows us the battle Jesus had when the time came to face the cross. What kept him faithful to the plan was the bigger picture: ‘for the joy set before him’ (Hebrews 12:2), so he did not ask the Father to rescue him.
The Father spoke from heaven with words of reassurance (vs 28) assuring Jesus that his suffering would have eternal purpose.
These words were for our benefit (v30) so that we would know the Father’s involvement and tender care of Jesus at this critical time.
Let's Pray...
As a child of God’s, take time to share anything that troubles your heart with our Father.
Pray for the courage and discernment to ask Father for reassurance and help to keep following him faithfully.
