Some beautiful photos from Brian and Rae Vermeulen prompted some research into the Parish magazines for written accounts of two cycle tours in 1999 and 2000. What a great way to get to know where the churches in our Parish are and have family fun together.
Pentecost 1999 Family Fun Ride
Do you know where all the churches in St John’s Parish are? A good way to find out is to join the Parish Family fun Ride, next year. The Freedom Day Fun Ride (organised by St John’s Church) was such a success that it is now to become an annual event!
At 7.00am in perfect weather, 130 cyclists left St John’s car park on their way to St Luke’s Diep River, under the railway subway to Emmanuel, then under the freeway to St Philip’s in Kenwyn and back, via Christ Church, up the hill to St John’s. At each church friendly parishioners supplied water and coca-cola.
The morning finished with breakfast on St John’s Mall where a large group of already munching Parishioners had gathered to welcome us back. A wonderfully festive atmosphere made this a Freedom Day to remember!

April 2000, Parish Profile
St John’s hosted a very successful Fun cycle Ride last year which saw families from all the churches in the Parish cycling the route together which took them past the then five churches – St John’s, Christ Church, St Luke’s, St Philip’s and Emmanuel. This year took the more active cyclists past our new Church of the Holy Spirit in Kirstenhof as well.
