Faith in Action: St John's Educational Fund

The St John’s Educational Fund continues to be a powerful testament to faith in action, opening doors to education and transforming lives within our parish and beyond.

We are delighted to share that the Fund grew from R157,840 to R258,441.99, a 64% increase, thanks to the generosity of our individual donors and the six parish churches who contribute faithfully each month. During the year, we were especially blessed by an additional donation of R20,000 from St Luke's Church. As they beautifully expressed:

“God has blessed us as a Church with so much, and it is out of that abundance that we extend our blessings to you as The Parish Educational Fund. May you continue to walk faithfully in what God has called you to do, and may His favour rest upon every step you take.” — St Luke’s Parish warden

Students are identified through communication within our six parish churches, where financial need is carefully considered and verified. Applications are assessed in line with the Fund’s criteria, and support is granted to students studying at accredited institutions. Importantly, funds are paid directly to these institutions, ensuring accountability and alignment with the Fund’s purpose.

This year, 11 students received support through the Fund, with eight worshipping at one of our St John’s churches — reflecting our commitment to both the wider community and our church family.

A shining example is Martin Mkomeje, who received funding for two consecutive years and graduated in 2025 with a BSc in Biotechnology from the University of the Western Cape. His journey highlights how faithful support can help transform potential into achievement.

Equally inspiring is a graduate who received support for three consecutive years and was later able to give back to the Fund, helping future students — a beautiful reflection of the “pay it forward” spirit within our parish community.

The Fund is chaired by Lynette Lambrechts, administered by Nadine Baatjies, and overseen by a committee with representatives from each church. This governance structure ensures every award is transparent, accountable, and prayerfully considered.

As we look ahead, we invite you to continue walking with us — through prayer, encouragement, and financial support — so that together we may keep opening doors, shaping futures, and extending God’s provision to the next generation.
