Word for the Day - 2

Then they asked him, “Where is your father?” “You do not know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” (John 8:19)

The Pharisees were blind to see that their same creator, sustainer, Yahweh, God could be the personal father of Jesus. In fact Jesus points out that they can’t recognize either the one true God or Jesus himself. Such was his nature and character that if they truly KNEW God they would have recognised Jesus.

I remember meeting someone for the first time and being struck by the similarities in them to someone else I knew. I asked are you the son of George and Sally? He said “Yes, how did you know?” It was hard to mistake - I could see it all over him - in his features, his character, it was so clear!

God is a Father who wants to be known. When you hungrily search Scripture to know more of Jesus - you discover more of who your Father is. You are a son, a daughter, who God is transforming into the likeness of his Son (Rom.8:29) so that many more may see God the Father in you and find salvation.

Lets Pray…

  • Ask God to show you more of who he is and what he is like.

  • Pray that your heart would be softened to recognise your Father’s nature in fellow believers.
