Word for the Day - 11

“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:40

When we look to Jesus, believe in him and learn from him, we discover who God is, our loving Father … that He accepts us into His family, that He desires to have an intimate relationship with us. We don’t need to perform, to be perfect in order to be loved.

Many years ago I struggled with the thought that I can run to God like a little child, climb on his lap, snuggle into his arms and feel secure. I had experienced abuse in my childhood and I was also very aware what my people, the German Nation, had done to the Jewish people, God’s chosen people. Looking to Jesus, forgiving and receiving his forgiveness enabled me to receive his love.

Our own efforts to be good and earn eternal life are useless. Only looking to Jesus, submitting to God’s will for our lives, trusting his love and growing in our relationship with him produces in us the life that death cannot destroy. Jesus promised to resurrect his followers at the last day and to give them eternal life with God.

Let’s Pray…

  • Father, please help us to grow in our relationship with you and Jesus. Help us to open our eyes and ears to see and hear what you are saying to us and to be aware of your presence with us each day.
